Life studies
Having an ability to observe, extract and record is a pre-requisite of working successfully in the two-dimensional world of painting.
Even with it's non-figurative approach my painting derives alot of rhythm, pace, compositional strength, and palette from the observed world around us.
It is because of the importance of draughtmanship that I have included some examples of my sketching over the years. Being working studies they do of course lack polish; but are included for completeness, and to allow a more rounded understanding of where my finished paintings start, and the journey that has preceeded them.
