This piece is balanced in the corners by lines of deep rich Napthol Crimson, the strength of which is both toned down, and demanded, by the beautiful rich tarnsluceny of a Burnt Sienna - around which the picture revolves.
The similarity in tone of the two colours demanded the dark to be introduced.
There were alot of possible directions for this piece - the use of the red was the more ambitious, but was a rare opportunity that I think paid off.
