"Songs VI"
Oil on canvas.

The main central area is the marvellous madder lake deep, which is a red even deeper and more richly translucent than alizarin crimson. This is suprisingly, and not obviously, partnered with a purple! A whole 200ml tube in fact of cobalt violet deep hbue which - when thickly applied takes on a contemporary greyish bloom, and in this case - being toward the colder end of the spectrum - links to the ultramarine base.

The rich warmth of fleshy earths top and bottom gently contain, splash over, and intrude into the central area.

A pleasing addition to the series.
