"Fields (diptych)"
Oil on canvas.

This pair of small square canvasses, with their subtle neutrals, mark a maturation and promising new step forward in my work.

Tonal contrast is strong and uncluttered. Being on relatively small canvasses the marks have high impact.

The two works continue with a lowered direction of travel of the brushstrokes and lines, which maintains the sense of horizon and allows for a figurative interpretation.

I am reminded of being high looking out over big skies, and our Devon fields cut through by hedgerows and drystone walls. Hence the title.

I am particularly pleased with this new subtlety.
