"Songs IV"
Oil on canvas.
This one breaks into new territory a little with much more heavily applied, stronger lines which curve outwards, pushing the boundaries.
The lower section of the field of green is phthalo green light (which has a wonderful opacity) laid so thinly that the sap green base can still be seen, and adds a real depth to the area. Then a pure sap green reintroduced in dots and lines.
Top section, atop yellow ochre, naples yellow, and a heavily wacked on earthy raw umber, is a thin translucent layer of sap green introduced. Raw umber reintroduced in the upper section to reinstate this aggreeable combination.
I am pleased with this new boldness of direction. A particularly forceful piece.
